My New Years Intentions

My New Years intentions are to do better in school, specifically in math and to be more responsible.
I would want to do better in math because in the beginning of the year I was doing really bad in math.  I completed my homework all the time but I never understood most of it so I was guessing half of the time. Then I started realizing that my grades were bad so that when I started asking my math teacher for help. Then later on as the quarter progressed my grades got better. I've been getting really good grades recently and I really like having good grades in math because math has always been a struggle for me so it was rare when I got good grades in math. So with the new year coming I would really like to keep up the good grades that I've been getting. Another thing that I would like to do is be more responsible. When it comes to school I always finish my homework on time when it's due. However I tend to procrastinate all the time and finish my homework at the last minute and go to bed really late sometimes. So when I go to school I'm really tired throughout all my classes. So next year I'm really gonna try to stop doing that because procrastination is a really bad habit that I have. I hope the new year brings joy all around! Have a Happy New Year!

Women in the Workplace: Fighting for equal pay

On April 12th it is equal pay day and unfortunately not everyone who has a job and gets paid for it can celebrate. In the early 1960's-1970's Victoria Woodhull served as justice of peace. Meaning technically she was the first women to have a job. However, this didn't change much because there is a huge inequality problem with women in the workplace.

Did you know that woman don't get paid as much as men do in the workplace? For centuries women have always been overlooked because men thought they were weak and that they could only be a housewife. For example women weren't allowed to have jobs back then because it was illegal. To this day women still aren't as equal as men are in the workplace. Women are equal to everyone else and they shouldn't be overlooked just because they are women. They are on an uneven Plainfield with men.

Women all over the world still have problems with getting an equal pay in the workplace.
It is unfair that women in the workplace don't get paid as much as men do even though they are doing the same thing as men are doing. This is taking place all over the world and it's a big problem that has existed for years. This problem started a really long time ago however in 1964 on average women were paid 59% of what men were paid. It's a big problem because after so many years of women working they still aren't getting paid equally.

In a survey that was asked for women and men to take about equality in the workplace, it showed these statistics. 25% Males took the survey and 75% females took the survey. They were asked if they think they get paid as much as every other person as to where they worked. 47% said yes and 52% said no. Another question that was asked was if they were aware of the fact that there is inequality in the workplace. 91% were aware of the problem and 8% were not aware. Finally the last question that was asked was is if they had the option to change the problem would they? 97% would change the problem and 3% would not.

91% of people knew this problem already and they agreed that if they could do something to help they would. However this is just in my local community. People already know about this problem but yet we are doing nothing to help. Raising awareness is important because with the research that people have been doing statistics say that if current trends continue women won't earn equal pay until 2059. That's a long way from now, and we can all help to close the wage gap sooner. There are ways to help, there are organizations and petitions that you can sign to help and speak out against the wage gap.

If we are doing the same task in the workplace then we should all get paid equally. We can help change this problem before 2059 as long as we all accept that everyone is equal. As a wise women once said "We are more alike my friends then we are unalike." Maya Angelou. We should all be treated equal regardless of the our gender or physical appearances etc.

Best Christmas Present Ever

On this blog I am going to elaborate on my favorite Christmas gift. It might seem a little cliche but compared to all of my other gifts this one is my favorite. I got this present when I was 4 and My Dad got it for me. It was in green wrapping paper and it had little Santa's all over it. I remember ripping off the wrapping paper and giving my dad a big hug. It was a stuffed animal/stuffed dog. This was my first stuffed animal ever and I still have it to this day. I named him Necesito, that is the Spanish word for need. Now at the time I was 4 and I hadn't developed a lot of words yet so I just blurted out a word in Spanish and that's been his name ever since. I never bothered to change it because I wanted to keep it original. This was my best Christmas present ever and I don't think any other Christmas Present could top it.

Favorite Quote

"Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud" -Maya Angelou

What this quote means to me is that when someone is having a bad day or someone is feeling bad about something, is that you should always try to cheer them up or help them feel positive towards the situation. I really like this quote because it reminds me to always be stay positive even at my worst times and it also shows me to persevere through any tough situation. I think this quote can really be helpful to a lot of people because sometimes people just automatically look at the negatives instead of the positives and I think this quote is a good reminder to not just be positive towards yourself but towards others as well.

My name's meaning

When I asked my mom what my name means and where it came from she didn't really tell me anything. She said that she's always wanted a daughter named Luisa-Fernanda, because my dad chose  my other two sisters names so when I was born she told my dad that it was her turn to name me. Personally I don't like my name or my middle name, I've always wanted a long name so that I could have a nickname but unfortunately my name is only 5 letters long so I can't really have a nickname. I like the fact that my name starts with an L but I don't like the rest of it. However my mom loves it so I hope she's happy that she named me that.

Love and Gelato

The book love and Gelato is a great love story with a surprising plot twist. The book is about a girl named Lina she's 16 and her mother died of cancer. Her mothers dying wish is for Lina to go to Italy to meet her father Howard. However Lina isn't interested in meeting her father because he's missed 16 years of her life but since her mother wanted her to go she went anyway. When she gets to Italy she finds out that her father lives in a cemetery, along with a woman named Sonia (Howard's friend). When Lina meets Sonia she hands her a journal, it was her mothers journal when she lived in Italy. Later on she meets a boy named Lorenzo (Ren) and they go on these adventures uncovering secrets from her moms journal. Lina finds out something that changes everything, but not only for her but for the people living around her she realizes that her life will ever be the same.

Gratitude

Gratitude, it's an emotion that makes people feel good. Thanksgiving is coming up and I would like to express what I'm thankful for. I have many things that I am grateful for but there are some things that Stand out to me. I am so grateful to have a mom, she means the world to me I could never imagine a world without her. She is my mom and dad, my parents split when I was really young and I haven't seen my dad in 6 years, so I am so thankful to have my mom throughout this whole time because she has done so much for me and I can't even explain how much I love her let alone be thankful to have her. Something else that I'm really thankful for is my friends. They are the best friends that I could ever ask for,  they are always there for me and they support me through everything I do. I could never ask for anything better than them. Another thing that I am really grateful for are my two sisters. I never tell them that I'm grateful to have them but they do a lot for me. My sister Elenia always helps me with my homework when I need it, her and I always fight but at the end of the day I know that I love her. My other sister Nadia always works hard to support my family. I don't really see her but when I do she's really fun to be around and I could never ask for a better two sisters that I have.

Lastly there are a couple things that I have to mention. I am very lucky to have a roof over my head and have somewhere to live. Not many people have somewhere to live and they are not as fortunate to have as many things as I do. I will never stop being grateful for having food and water on my table every day, no matter what I never go a day without eating and I am so lucky to have this. Lastly I am very grateful to have a bed. You might think I'm weird to be grateful for this but not many people think of this as something to be grateful for. Having a bed to sleep on every day after a tiring day is something that I would never take for granted. I will never stop being thankful for having these things in my life and I encourage to whoever is reading this to give a big thanks to whoever or whatever you are thankful to have in your life.

Election Reflection

I think that this election was a joke, it took forever to get an new president. I wanted Bernie Sanders to win but he lost to Hillary Clinton in the primaries because she got more votes. I stayed up until 2:30 AM to watch the election results and the they announced that Donald Trump had won. I ran to my moms room crying, literally crying because I didn't want Donald Trump to win. However Donald Trump winning made me want to learn more about politics, I wouldn't want to be involved but I would like to have some knowledge on the topic. I would like to learn more about politics because I want to inform myself about the whole election so that I don't confused on anything and so I know what's true and what's not true. When the next election comes sadly I won't be able to vote, I'd be 17 so the next time I would be able to vote would be to have a new president Donald Trump would have already served 2 terms. Some of the issues that I think are important is that Donald Trump wants to build a wall and deport all illegal immigrants out of the country, however target the criminals first. I think he will have trouble doing this because some people will disagree with him and not let the law pass. Overall I think that if I stay positive about the election everything will turn out okay.

Best Day Ever

My dream best day ever would have to include pizza. I love pizza so much it's my favorite food and I also really like lays flamin hot potato chips they are my favorite chips of all time along with many others.  My whole day would consist of just hanging out with my closest friends and doing a lot of fun things. One thing would be watching netflix because I am upsessed with tv it basically just consumes my whole life. So that would have to be in my best day ever, but that's only one thing I have a whole 24 hours to do things so I have to use it wisely. Another thing I'd do would be going to six flags or an amusement park because I absolutely love roller coasters, I love the thrill I get when there's a big drop on a roller coaster. A mandatory thing that would have to happen on my best day ever would be going to a Llama farm. Llamas are my favorite animals and so are penguins but I love llamas more so I would have to go to a llama farm. Then I think the last thing I'd do would sleep, I love sleeping because I get so tired after I do a lot of things so I would wrap myself into a burrito blanket and fall asleep.

The Election

Tuesday, November 8th is Election Day in the U.S. We will have a new president because Barack Obama has already served two terms and can't be president any longer, soon he will no longer be president. The two candidates that are running to be the new president are Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. Donald Trump is Republican and Hillary Clinton is a Democrat. So far we have had three presidential debates and Hillary was won all three.

Have you ever had an election where you didn't want to vote for either candidate. Well this year that's what's happening. In the beginning of the election many people didn't like the people who were running. Then as the votes started being counted it was down to three candidates. Donald Trump, Bernie Sanders, and Hillary Clinton. Bernie Sanders is also a democrat but he dropped out of the race because he wasn't getting enough votes and lost to Hillary Clinton with the democratic votes. However what's really surprising to most people is that one of the candidates Donald Trump made it this far in the race.

At the moment the most expected person to win is Hillary Clinton. Donald Trump is least expected to win because of his reputation. If you were to look up Donald Trump on google you wouldn't see the best things. He is known to be racist towards the hispanic culture especially Mexicans and African Americans as well. He has made very rude comments to hispanics and he is very disrespectful to women. Recently many women have publicly announced that Donald Trump had raped them or verbally insulted them. Then after most people got to know him they were surprised that he was still in the running to be president. However there were still many people who voted for him. We are really close to Election Day so the question is who do you think will win?

Johnny's Character Analysis

For the book The Outsiders I chose Johnny to be my character analysis. I chose Johnny because he was my favorite character from the book The Outsiders.

One main thing that I learned from Johnny is that no matter what your past is you can be different. When Ponyboy described him in the book he said that Johnny was a lost puppy and didn't know where to go and has been beaten down to many times. Johnny doesn't have the best background his parents don't really care about him and his dad is always hitting him for no reason. He is also known as a greaser and greasers don't really have the best reputation because they aren't as rich as the soc. I think Johnny really grew as a character throughout the book. He risked his life to save kids from a burning church and he didn't care about what would happen to him he just wanted to save other people's lives. The thing I liked the most about Johnny is that in the beginning of the book he was a really beaten down person but throughout the book you can see that Johnny starts to come out of his shell and becomes braver and more courageous. Even though his background was bad he was still known as a hero.

One song that I think would represent Johnny is 'Creep by Radiohead". I think this song represents Johnny because the song is talking about how he doesn't belong here and how he is lost in his own world and would rather just disspear and doesn't think anyone would care. This reminds me of Johnny because he is lost and he's kind of antisocial besides the "gang" he hangs out with. I really liked Johnny and I hope that I hope that I get to read more books with characters that have similar personality traits as Johnny.

Throwback Blog

When I was a child my first book that I successfully read was "The very busy spider" By: Eric Carle. I remember this book vividly because the first time I was able to read it I couldn't stop. I was so proud that I had read my first book so I kept reading it over and over again, and somewhere in my room I think I still have the book. When I was around the age of 6 or 7 I absolutely loved the peanuts/snoopy movies. Every time there was christmas, thanksgiving, halloween or any other holiday there would be a snoopy movie. I would remember that I would always be really excited to watch these movies because I always thought that snoopy was a really cute dog and his little birds called Woodstocks were really cute to. Some of my favorite tv shows as a kid were Teletubbies, That's so raven, The suite life of Zach and Cody, The powerpuff girls, Fosters home for imaginary friends, Boy meets world, The proud Family, Spongebob, Jimmy Neutron, Wizards of Waverly place, and much more. I think my favorite show out of all these would be That's so Raven. I really liked that show because the main character (Raven) had visions throughout the show so she could predict the future and she kept it a secret from everyone except her friends. These are some of the memories I have from my childhood.

Blogging Tips

When reading these blogging tips I think that two main tips I should focus on are Punctuation and
Grammer and Read and Comment.

I think I should work on these two tips because I haven't really focused on these tips. Punctuation and Grammar is a important one for me because usually when I'm writing a blog post I just think of what I'm gonna write about to get the blog done am dover with. I don't really pay attention to my grammer or puntucation because I didn't really think it was important. However now I think differently, using proper grammar is important because if I don't use it, it makes me sound unprofessional or lazy.

Another tip that I should really focus on is read and comment. I never really read anyone else's blogs because I'm usually just focused on mine. Most of the time I'm just trying to get my blog posts out of the way so that I can do other things, but I need to stop doing that because blogging is important it makes me a better writer and that's a skill that I've always wanted to get better at.
I think this article really helped me look at the things I need to work on for my future blog posts.

Best Trip Ever

The best trip ever for me would be to go to New York. I would love to go to New York because it's a beautiful place to go. With all of the skyscrapers and stores I would love to visit. Especially at night when all of the lights are on it adds a really pretty effect to the city. One of the best parts of NewYork is that it's so big. It would be a really good experience for me to go because it's really culturally diversed. It would be a great place to meet new people from different places. Something that's different about New York is that almost all of the stores and restaurants are usually still open late at night, because it's known as the city that never sleeps. Lastly one of the places I would really like to go in New York Is the Statue of Liberty, I just think it would be a once in a lifetime experience and it would be really pretty to see in person. These are some of the reasons why New York would be one of the best trips ever.

Beastkeeper

In my book Beastkeeper a girl named Sarah and her family are always on the move, recently in their new house Sarah's mother decided to walk out and leave her family. Sarah has no clue why she left and is starting to feel hopeless that her mother will come back.

In 10 years

In 10 years I'll be 23 and I see myself living in an apartment with my best friend Yazmin. Living in Chicago and  attending UIC college studying to be a lawyer or nurse.

I'm still in eighth grade and I play basketball and volleyball hopefully in the future I will still be playing volleyball and basketball. When I grow up I would like to be a lawyer because I haven't had the best childhood so I would enjoy helping people as a career. One of my biggest dreams has always been to be an actress because I always thought it would be a really cool experience for me.

One of my biggest aspirations in life would be to be happy and accomplished with my life because people would always remember you as a joyful person this is where I see myself in 10 years.
