Johnny's Character Analysis

For the book The Outsiders I chose Johnny to be my character analysis. I chose Johnny because he was my favorite character from the book The Outsiders.

One main thing that I learned from Johnny is that no matter what your past is you can be different. When Ponyboy described him in the book he said that Johnny was a lost puppy and didn't know where to go and has been beaten down to many times. Johnny doesn't have the best background his parents don't really care about him and his dad is always hitting him for no reason. He is also known as a greaser and greasers don't really have the best reputation because they aren't as rich as the soc. I think Johnny really grew as a character throughout the book. He risked his life to save kids from a burning church and he didn't care about what would happen to him he just wanted to save other people's lives. The thing I liked the most about Johnny is that in the beginning of the book he was a really beaten down person but throughout the book you can see that Johnny starts to come out of his shell and becomes braver and more courageous. Even though his background was bad he was still known as a hero.

One song that I think would represent Johnny is 'Creep by Radiohead". I think this song represents Johnny because the song is talking about how he doesn't belong here and how he is lost in his own world and would rather just disspear and doesn't think anyone would care. This reminds me of Johnny because he is lost and he's kind of antisocial besides the "gang" he hangs out with. I really liked Johnny and I hope that I hope that I get to read more books with characters that have similar personality traits as Johnny.

  1. Interesting analysis! I think it would be even more helpful if you posted the lyrics or a link to the song.
